eCHINOPSIS AND tRICHOCEREUS hYBRIDS
Echinopsis species originate in South America. They are essentially barrel cacti, rarely exceeding two feet in height. Some experts have added Trichocereus to the list of Echinopsis plants. Many Trichocereus plants are columnar, sometimes reaching up to 40 ft in height, far too large for the average collector. Advanced hybrids can be very colorful with many differences in coloration, petal forms, number of petals, size. The modern trend is to create hybrids between Echinopsis and the smaller Trichocereus plants. These are called “Multi-hybrids”, bringing the coloration from the Echinopsis and the size and number of petals and sepals from the Trichocereus blossoms.
Echinopsis hybrids have large blossoms, with the average of 4 inches in diameter and 8 inches in length, but sometimes up to 9 inches across and up to 17 inches in length. They blossom at a relatively small size, often with multiple blossoms at a time and with repeat blossoms during the blossoming period which is typically between April and June. Therefore the “Easter Lilly Cactus” label. The blossoms usually open at night and last through the next day, even a couple of days when it is cooler.
My collection consists of over 1,000 named hybrids, including hybrids from the US, Germany, England and elsewhere. So far, I have created 350 of my own unique plants.

Summer 2022 Update:
I have a large number of Trichocereus hybrids that blossomed for the first time this year. While the flowers are great, many of them are copies of plants in my private collection. Therefore, I am able to offer them for sale at $15 each plus shipping. To see pictures of the flowers email me at gabuie@bledsoe.net. I then will send you a link to the pictures on flickr.com
